Steps for the Studentship Program
Step 1: Interview
Begin your journey by attending an interview to discuss your application, suitability, and alignment with the program’s goals. This step ensures both you and CRENC are on the same page regarding expectations.
Step 2: Sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
Once selected, you will sign an MOU outlining your responsibilities and receive your assigned research question, marking the official start of your studentship.
Step 3: Begin GCP Training
Kick off the program with certified Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training to ensure you understand the ethical and procedural aspects of clinical research.
Note: Completion of this training is mandatory to proceed.
Step 4: Develop Your Research Proposal
With guidance from CRENC mentors, you will develop a comprehensive research proposal. This document will serve as the foundation for your project and ensure clarity in your objectives and methodology.
Step 5: Implement Your Research Protocol
Begin implementing your approved research protocol. This phase includes hands-on training in basic statistical analysis to prepare you for interpreting your findings effectively.
Step 6: Analyze and Interpret Data
Work with your mentors to analyze the data you’ve collected, using statistical tools like R, STATA, or SPSS. Gain valuable insights and prepare your findings for further application.
Step 7: Write Your Thesis or Report
Document your research in the form of a master’s thesis or equivalent. This step focuses on scientific writing, ensuring your work meets academic and professional standards.
Step 8: Defend Your Research
Present and defend your findings before an evaluation panel. This critical step demonstrates your understanding of the research process and your project’s impact.
Step 9: Publish Your Research
Finalize and submit at least one publication based on your research. This may include a journal article, abstract, or case report. Authorship will be determined collaboratively upon submission.
Note: The publication is a mandatory deliverable for all participants.
Testimonials
Dr. Raissa TCHOUNJA
University of Abomey-Calavi, Bénin
I joined the CRENC team in 2017 with the initial objective of conducting my research thesis. At the time, I had no idea what research involved. CRENC provided me with mentors who guided me throughout and taught me research and its fundamentals from scratch. It was such a great experience that, after completing my research thesis, I decided to continue working with the CRENC team. This experience opened many doors for me, including the opportunity to specialize in cardiology, which I have just completed. I strongly encourage everyone to join the CRENC team!

Cohort 2020-2021
The CRENC’s studentship program I participated in during 2021 was instrumental in completing my master’s thesis in Epidemiology and Public Health, offering flexible online and onsite sessions, monthly meetings, daily mentorship follow-ups, and regular progress evaluations. This structured support, combined with training in protocol writing, ethical considerations in thesis writing, data collection, management, analysis and interpretation significantly enhanced the quality of my masters thesis and prepared me for future research endeavors in the professional world.
