Course Description:

Welcome to the Basics of Implementation Science. This short course is for public health professionals, researchers, and students who want to understand how proven interventions can be put into practice effectively — and why so many of them never reach the people who need them most.

This course covers the core ideas, tools, and methods of implementation science in a clear and practical way. You will explore what implementation science is, how it differs from other types of research, and how to use it to design and evaluate interventions that actually work in real-world settings.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

    • Define implementation science and explain the knowledge-do gap it is designed to bridge
    • Identify key concepts such as evidence-based interventions, implementation strategies, de-implementation, and implementation outcomes
    • Distinguish between theories, models, and frameworks and know when to use them
    • Apply tools like the KTA model, CFIR, RE-AIM, and Diffusion of Innovation to real implementation challenges
    • Formulate an implementation research question using the PICOT framework and set SMART objectives
    • Navigate the three phases of implementation research and identify what needs to happen at each stage

This course is delivered asynchronously on the CRENC Learn platform. Each lesson builds on the previous one. You are encouraged to work through them in order and complete the quiz at the end of each lesson before moving on. A certificate of completion is awarded upon passing the final assessment.
